Dwayne Douglas Johnson, born on May 2, 1972, and widely known by his wrestling moniker The Rock, is an American actor, professional wrestler, and entrepreneur. He is signed with WWE, where he makes occasional appearances. Recognized as one of the greatest professional wrestlers in history, Johnson played a pivotal role in the growth and popularity of the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) during its Attitude Era. He wrestled full-time with the WWF for eight years before transitioning to an acting career. His films have grossed over $3.5 billion in North America and over $10.5 billion worldwide, positioning him among the highest-grossing and best-paid actors globally. Additionally, he co-owns the United Football League, serves on the board of directors of TKO Group Holdings—the parent company of UFC and WWE—and co-founded Seven Bucks Productions. Johnson initially attended the University of Miami on a football scholarship and was part of their 1991 national championship team, though he primarily served as a backup player. Despite his ambitions to play professional football, he went undrafted in the 1995 NFL draft and had a brief stint with the Calgary Stampeders before being released in his first season. In 1996, with his father's assistance, he signed with the WWF, quickly gaining worldwide recognition with his charismatic trash-talking persona. Johnson left WWE in 2004, returned part-time in 2011 until 2013, and made occasional appearances until his retirement in 2019. In 2023, he rejoined on a part-time basis. A 10-time world champion and the promotion's first African-American world champion, he has also held the Intercontinental Championship twice, the Tag Team Championship five times, won the 2000 Royal Rumble, and became WWE’s sixth Triple Crown champion. Johnson headlined numerous pay-per-view events, including six WrestleManias (15, 16, 17, 28, 29, and 40), with WrestleMania 28 being the highest-selling wrestling pay-per-view, and he also main-evented the most-watched episodes of WWE’s flagship shows, Raw and SmackDown.
